Mark Watkins of McConnellsburg, a rookie in the full size 305 Sprints, raced to his first win Friday night at the Path Valley Speedway Park.
Watkins started in seventh place and patiently worked his way to second by lap 11. Michael Heckman was the early leader but spun on lap 10 and Craig Robinson took over first place. When Robinson went off the track with mechanical problems on lap 13, Watkins took over the lead.
Frequent winner Mike Freet had moved into second place in lap five and dogged Watkins tail for the balance of the race, but finished a length behind as Watkins held the inside groove. The front five finishers were Watkins, Freet, Craig Laudermilch, George Riden, and Michael Wagner. Cowboy Jim Kennedy and Freet won the heat races.
