The PA sprint series begins their 11th year this season after 10 years of being known as the PA305 Sprints. Racing begins Friday at Path valley then moves to Port Royal Saturday night.
The series has 29 races on the 2009 schedule. Competitors will return to Path Valley which has hosted the series since its inception. Port Royal, Williams Grove and Lincoln have again scheduled dates along with a return to Central PA speedway in Clearfield sharing a show with the All Star Sprint Series in June and another date in August. Clinton County and Susquehanna have also added one date each.
A “Frequent Contender” program was started last year to reward attendance for teams that choose to race on a more regular basis. The fund awarded $2000 in cash to its top attendees through money raised through sponsors and t-shirt sales. The plan has been renewed for 2009 and in addition several contingency sponsors have come on board. Triple X Race Products, STB Performance and Big Valley Fasteners are on board as contingency sponsors for the series in 2009.
Hesston Speedway which has hosted the series since 1998 recently announced new management and does not as yet include the sprint cars in their plans. Series officials are pleased with the number of races and variety of tracks on the schedule but work will need to be done to restructure Saturday nights due to the changes at Hesston. “We’re disappointed to lose one of our home tracks. The series essentially started at Hesston and we have always been supportive; as of now we have not heard from the new management” stated Rod Ort who handles PR for the series. A note on Hesston’s web site indicates plans to run but the series is not mentioned.
“2009 will be a year of discovery as we are apparently looking for a new Saturday home and trying to fill some open weekends on the schedule. Port Royal has been supportive by adding a few more dates but some weekends are still completely open”. A complete schedule is posted at pasprintseries.com and tracks interested in the series may contact Tom Worrick at 814-383-4332 or Rod Ort at 717-938-5444.
