The PA Sprint Series kicks off their 2012 season this week at Path Valley Speedway Saturday night. The RaceSaver regional series has seen considerable growth over the winter with 99 teams registered or applied.
For 2012 the series will have its first ever championship opportunity as the teams will be able to compete for the “pick-10” championship. PASS has never had a points system as the series is recreational and encourages teams only to compete when they can afford it. Traditional points require that teams run every race in order to compete for a championship. This can compel teams to race when funds are low or when important family events are scheduled. With the pick 10 teams will be able to pick just 10 races (1/4 of the scheduled events) and the best average finish will be the champion. Teams must designate ahead of time which races will be pick 10 events. Similar to a standard points system the drivers that compete away from the series on scheduled nights will be excluded from eligibility.
Pancho’s race products has returned as contingency sponsor for 2012 offering certificates that spend like cash at Pancho’s store and also some contingency prizes that will be awarded to pick 10 participants.
Pick 10 standings will be updated on the web site after each event. Complete details of the contingency program for teams available in the team section and additional info will be available as the season progresses.
