Rain on Friday pushed the next to last race of the Season at Path Valley Speedway back to Sunday afternoon. Afternoon racing usually means a hard slick surface, which tends to benefit veteran drivers. But, on October 8th, four of the six feature winners were recording either their first win ever, or their first win in their present division.
Randy Kaylor started on the pole for the 305 Sprint Car feature and led the first four laps. Wes Zimmerman, of Newville, PA, tried to pass Kaylor twice using the low groove before using the high line in turns three and four to take the lead on lap five. The feature was slowed only once by a caution on lap two, and Zimmerman steadily pulled away from Kaylor to lead by over a full straightaway when it was over. Kaylor held on to finish second. Michael Heckman ran third until he went too high in turn one on laps nineteen and twenty, giving up third to Tim Damiani and then fourth to Jim Kennedy. Heckman settled for fifth. Wes Zimmerman had won before in the Dwarf Car division, but this was his first win since moving up to 305 Sprint Cars. Kaylor won the heat race.
